More than 500 people arrested after illegal motorcycle rally at bike park

Bikes and other vehicles are banned from certain parts of downtown Denver as part of a crackdown on illegal motorcycle rallies.

But as people gather downtown on Saturday to protest a rally that turned violent in downtown Denver, authorities say a group of men decided to set up a makeshift motorcycle rally.

Police say they were alerted to the planned rally by a witness.

It is not clear who that witness was, but a group gathered at the intersection of Washington and Broadway and started shouting at drivers, demanding to get off the street.

The man was one of several people arrested Saturday, and a court date was set for Sunday.

Denver police spokesman Sgt. Dave Johnson said the man was charged with one count of unlawful assembly and one count each of obstructing and resisting an officer and harassment.

The men were not arrested at the event.
