New bike parts to be part of $10 million deal for $1 billion bike program

A new $10-billion bike-modification program will include components from parts suppliers that will be used to build about 20,000 bikes a year, the U.S. Department of Transportation said Wednesday.

“We have a long-term vision to make America a safer place for everyone,” Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx said in announcing the program.

“Bike programs help us achieve that goal.”

The goal is to reduce the number of people killed on the road by more than 70 percent over the next 10 years, and to save at least $7.3 billion, according to the program’s website.

Foxx said the program will allow companies to invest in innovation, improve safety, reduce pollution and reduce congestion.

The program is expected to produce at least 15,000 jobs, with at least 10,000 positions at the federal, state and local levels.

It will also support economic development, job creation and local economic growth.

Foxx, who has been a member of President Donald Trump’s transition team, is a member on the National Transportation Safety Board, which investigates vehicle-safety incidents and accidents in the U,S.
